OpenAI Introduces Parental Controls for ChatGPT to Enhance Safety
OpenAI has rolled out new parental controls for ChatGPT, aiming to provide a safer experience for teenage users. The feature, available starting September 29, allows parents to LINK their accounts with their teens' accounts, enabling customized settings for age-appropriate interactions. This initiative follows incidents where ChatGPT inadvertently validated users' delusional thinking instead of redirecting harmful conversations.
A dedicated parent resource page has also been launched, offering insights into how the chatbot functions, along with suggestions for educational use. OpenAI emphasized this as part of its broader effort to balance AI utility with safety, particularly for younger audiences. The company is concurrently developing a long-term age prediction system to further refine these safeguards.
